FORGOTTEN CRUCIAL ECOSYSTEM

Laying on the most populous island in the world, mountains in Java continuously receive enormous pressures from human activities. But this fragile ecosystem is the heart of human well-being and ecosystem sustainability.

Mountains in island of Java are hotspots for biodiversity including the most threatened leopard in the world. Additionally, mountains provide water and food for millions of people living the mountains and the affected areas in Java. Yet,conservation of this ecosystem has received little attention locally, nationally or even globally. Its importance is well recognized, but the conservation attempt remains insignificant if we compared to other issues such as tropical forest, orangutan, Sumatran tiger, marine ecosystem etc.
